go hiyama has always been a very interesting artist for me, ever since he emerged in 2002 on james ruskins coda label. both his musical & production style have changed a lot since then and i personally feel theres still no one out there who comes near to what he is doing. we planned on working together since a long time now and i am glad we finally made it work with this brilliant 4 tracker. no fillers. all 4 tracks have been tested thoroughly in my sets and always stood out as highlights.

oh ruin is eoin o ruinaigh, originally from dublin but now residing in london. having started out playing in a host of bands, at one point embarking on a tour supporting morrissey, he has now gone solo and is turning out such six-string gems as the two tracks collected on this single. a beguiling melange of untempered blues and campfire songs which draw on a rich irish folk tradition, eoins songs are intricately drawn sketches accompanied by deftly finger-picked melodies, even performed on guitars made by eoin himself.

nice price deal !!! with juno records hitting its tenth release we revisit yet another classic from the archives of electronic music royalty. producer, label boss, dj & remixer extraordinaire, charles webster will need no introduction to house music lovers, and its his 1998 collaboration with renowned uk vocalist shara nelson which gets a 2010 touch up. orignally out on the seminal label pagan, >sense of danger< was a real deep house anthem back in 1998, so it was imperative to leave it in good hands for remix duties. the popular peoples front, the disco house supergroup made up of anonymous musical activists are just that. ppf breath new life into >sense of danger<, with nelsons vocal being matched by an effervescent dubby groove. an alternate dangerous dub gives the track a darker but equally melodic feel with an abrasive bassline central to the groove.

run by annie & sex tags !! finally it’s here! the new long awaited 12 inch from the talented norwegian producer skatebård. these two tracks were originally meant to be released last year, but due to different reasons they never made it to the press, and almost disappeared into darkness. totally and sex tags ufo got hold of them, and now they are here for you to enjoy! way out-why not? are two beautiful and melodic tracks, one with a massive percussive breakdown, and both with skatebårds original and unique italo sound. this is the summer anthem record of 2010, no doubt!! skatebård has previously released on labels such as tellektro, keys of life, supersoul recordings, sex tags mania and radius, in addition to his own label digitalo enterprises. totally is a label formerly based in finland, founded in 2002 by annie and timo kaukolampi (op:l bastards). now it is based in norway, and operated by annie herself. with the label annie releases her own material like the recent album dont stop, and various other artists as well

after 2 very remarkable releases, the french label pilbus records is back on the offensive with this ep highlighting another label team member : macsim ganczarczyk. macsims minimal style is clearly represented in his part one original mix, decorated with dark tones mixed with cavernous atmosphere, and rolling around a heavy bass filling entirely the soundspace. you can feel the same darkness in the second track of this part one ep: a remix made by the probably most well known argentinian producer: franco cinelli, who shows his talent by completely changing the style of the original mix.

coming from the heart of bosnia, solomun is a passionate dj who certainly knows how to please a crowd and keep the energy on the floor. equally as talented and creative in the studio, he has many releases to his name on his own label diynamic, as well as other imprints such as four:twenty, liebe*detail and dessous recordings. made for the dancefloor, his productions always have an element of funk or surprise, reminding people of the fun thats there to be had with music. as a label with many close ties to mobilee records, diynamic will be co-hosting a party at mobilees sonar 2010 celebrations, which makes it even more fitting that this release brings the two forces more closely together. solomuns next big bang, being brought to you via leena music, is a sure extension of his impeccable production skills and style, and is also one of the most unique releases you will here on the label so far. a-side >sisi< opens with a head-spinning explosion of notes and chords, being fired out like sparks in a continual loop. then half way through the record, they dramatically stop, only to soon build up again and set the roller coaster off once more. b-side >talk to the hand< is a bass-heavy and punchy track, that surprises you with euphoric piano chords in the second half, whilst b2 >curesto< brings all of the elements together with piano chords, build-ups and some drama. enjoy!

q: how did quinn and alexis meet?
a: the two were introduced by chris veltri, owner of legendary record shop groove merchant in san francisco. veltri and luke had made a pair of plunderphonic dusted disco 12 inches under the name coppa. georgopoulos was a founder of the group tussle and asked if coppa would do a tussle remix. this led to luke acting as producer on the tussle album telescope mind.

this is a well-rounded compilation of material from various plan b recordings artists. up first is dakini9s remix of >swine<, a track originally made by spider & lola. this is a deep, minimal techno track, with squealing pigs and industrial sounds which were recorded in pig slaughter houses and have been layered throughout the track. second up is courages >mildred< track. this is one of those tracks that just makes you want to dance, period. this is from his >feast or famine ep<, which will be coming out later this year. the third track is from detroits very own bileebob (underground resistance, detroit grand pubahs), who teams up with his agriculture partner, marshallito. here we have an amazing array of driving drumbeats and chaotic synth work that blends perfectly together for an infectious, grooving dance floor banger! the final track is from dj spider: a deep house track, with a funky bass line, nice synth work and a good driving beat. this house track completes the compilation and also gives you a taste of the diversity of this labels sound.

tbd first made a noteworthy noise with the release of >what is this?<, their 2009 debut that found favor with critics, djs and audiences for both its seditious take on dance music – and avoidance of worn-out conventions – and sheer sublimity. it was fitting success for an outfit founded by two musicians who, bored by the sounds around them, set out to >create something new, fresh and not confined by restrictive genre pigeonholing.< on the heels of that pitch-perfect release, as well as remixes for luminaries including permanent vacation, runaway, 2020 soundsystem and populette, to name just a few, tbd – comprising rong musics lee douglas and ex-!!!/outhud bassist and producer justin vandervolgen – is back with a 12 inch of idiosyncratic new music.

back again we have the mediterranean flavor of the friends affkt and alberto sola. always experimenting with different ingredients like the cooker ferran adria, the guys who laid the first stone of the legendary label barraca, now present a hybrid of pop and house which will leave no one indifferent. ‘pobla loves you’ was born with the tuba of alberto cuartero, orchestra director of hoya gonzalo in albacete. marc and alberto (affkt and sola) wanted to have a typical instrument of a band and merged it with the electronic dance scene, always being faithful to his maxim of making music to dance as well as to listen. if we surround valencia, road to pobla de farnals, we passed through la canada. there are los updates, who upon hearing the organic rhythm of pobla and the work with the wind instruments, set to work with the voices. perfectly adapted to the capital of the turia river, jorge and loreto propose a valencian poem that their children have learned at school. the moon of valencia then join our dinner for four. finally, we add to our paella a bit of percussion and keyboards made in affkt, to get a main course and obtain a typical valencian plate but by adding a little chilean salt becomes international. more oriented to the dance floor, there are three rather different remixes. new union between spain and chile, with danny fiddo and felipe venegas. this couple present an elegant and deep remix with drums and vocals perfectly adapted to the current sound. moreover, the french man darlyn vlys re-interpreted >pobla loves you< with a lot of groove and percussion added. finally, affkt gives his funker version of events to complete a job that will come out by the german label international freakshow
